ABB E-mobility is the division of the ABB Group, counting 100000 employees worldwide, dedicated to electrifying mobility. With 1400+ employees, global headquarters in Switzerland and a state-of-the-art production facility in San Giovanni Valdarno (Arezzo), ABB E-mobility has built over 14 years of world firsts: from Europe’s first 50 kW charger to the world’s first live Truck Megawatt Charger. Their mission is unambiguous: electrify mobility with seamless, efficient, flexible, operated and sustainable charging solutions.

In electronic assembly lines, waste hides everywhere: in waiting time between stages, in rework loops, in WIP buffers silently accumulating, in movements that add no value. Lean thinking has a name for all of this: Muda. And this project asks you to find it, measure it and eliminate it.

The setting is ABB E-mobility’s automated electronic board assembly line, the THT soldering lines that produce the circuits at the heart of electric vehicle chargers. Through a rigorous approach starting from Gemba observation and Value Stream Mapping, you will map the end-to-end process quantifying VA/NVA time, WIP, lead time and bottlenecks. You will collect data directly from the line (stops, micro-stops, cycle times, throughput), build a Pareto of losses and conduct root cause analyses using 5Why and Ishikawa methodologies.

The final deliverable is an improvement action plan with initiatives prioritized by impact and effort, owners, timing and expected KPI benefits, together with a future-state flow proposal with KPI tracking and a daily loss-review routine.
