ABB E-mobility is the division of the ABB Group, counting 100000 employees worldwide, dedicated to electrifying mobility. With 1400+ employees, global headquarters in Switzerland and a state-of-the-art production facility in San Giovanni Valdarno (Arezzo), ABB E-mobility has built over 14 years of world firsts: from Europe’s first 50 kW charger to the world’s first live Truck Megawatt Charger. Their mission is unambiguous: electrify mobility with seamless, efficient, flexible, operated and sustainable charging solutions.
At ABB E-mobility, every minute of unexplained downtime is a missed opportunity. The automated THT conformal coating process and SMT lines continuously generate data, but that data is not yet being extracted, structured and transformed into actionable insights. This project changes that.
The project goal is to improve on-time, on-quality, on-cost performance by identifying and eliminating the main OEE losses on the automated THT conformal coating process and SMT lines through structured data collection and analysis. The focus will be on strengthening the ABB E-mobility Production System by standardizing loss categorization, downtime reporting and KPI tracking. In practice: building an automated log-extraction tool that processes machine log files, generates a downtime and micro-stop map of the coating process and produces an OEE baseline, a Pareto of top losses, recurring patterns and recommendations.
The work combines on-the-floor time studies, machine log file analysis (events, alarms, states, timestamps), micro-stop threshold definition and the development of a parsing tool with automated KPI output and dashboards, all grounded in a lean, data-driven culture of continuous improvement, alongside the Production Engineering Manager and the Production Supervisor.
If you are comfortable with production data, can code and want to see your work become a tool running on a real production line, this is the right project.
