The increasing attention to sustainability is challenging logistics firms with new requirements and changes. Stakeholders are asking for more socially responsible practices along the supply chain, aimed at improving the physical and psychological conditions in the working environment. However, firms’ current efforts are often not sufficient to address these increasing challenges. The raise of Industry 4.0, whose application to the logistics field is known as Logistics 4.0 (L40) represents an opportunity to improve the social sustainability. The thesis intends to analyse the role that L40 and innovative technologies have in fostering social sustainability, and to provide advancement to the identified research field.
