The concept of responsible ownership was initially developed with reference to large, predominantly publicly owned enterprises. However, given the growing importance held in local and global economies by small and medium-sized privately owned enterprises, first and foremost family businesses, and given the specific governance and organizational characteristics of these types of enterprises, it is becoming increasingly necessary to go further in analyzing the concept of responsible ownership and to better understand how it can apply, through good practices, to the world of family businesses.

The objective of this thesis is therefore to contextualize and map the main practices of responsible ownership, collecting survey and interview data to analyze their adoption by family business and business-owning families.
