Description:
The fashion and design industries have a significant environmental and social impact, which can be reduced through the adoption of circular economy strategies (R-strategies) such as reuse, repair, refurbishment, and recycling. Cities play a key role in enabling these strategies, as they concentrate actors, resources, and infrastructures, and can act as urban laboratories for the implementation of circular practices. Local authorities can further support this transition through targeted policies and initiatives.
To design effective actions and assess their impact, it is essential to measure circularity at the urban level. A KPI-based framework for measuring circularity at both organisational and urban levels has been developed. The objective of this thesis is to test and validate this framework in the context of the fashion and design sectors in Milan, evaluating its applicability and ability to capture urban circularity dynamics.
Objectives:
(1)Map and analyse circular economy activities in the fashion and design sectors within the city of Milan
(2)Engage identified organisations and collect data through the application of the circularity measurement framework
(3)Measure and analyse aggregated urban circularity indicators for Milan to evaluate the framework’s effectiveness at the city level
Methodology: Literature review; mapping and scouting activities; data collection through surveys and/or interviews; quantitative and qualitative analysis
