The rapid urbanisation and the shift towards sustainable urban development have raised critical questions about the role of Urban Manufacturing (UM) in shaping the future of cities (Reynolds, 2017). Urban manufacturing encompasses a diverse range of activities, including traditional heavy industry, high-tech production, and artisanal craft. Seen as a possible future of production UM differs from old productive paradigms in different elements. Using advanced technologies such as additive manufacturing, ICT, distributed manufacturing and cyber physics systems) (Kang et al., 2016; Frazzon et al., 2020) UM is a possible solution to the need to produce in urban territories which have problems of space availability and plant integration. UM role is crucial not only for production but also in product prototyping and innovation, thanks to the integration of citizien and highly skilled professional in the productive processes (Freeman et al., 2017).

However, the study of this phenomenon still needs a consistent mapping of its stakeholders (Reynolds, 2017). This thesis proposal outlines a comprehensive research project aimed at mapping and analyzing urban manufacturing stakeholders within the context of modern cities. Mapping urban manufacturing stakeholders is a crucial step towards ensuring the sustainability and vitality of cities in an increasingly urbanized world and strengthening their resilience to world economic crisis.

The objective of this research is to map, categorize, and analyze the diverse stakeholders involved in urban manufacturing. The key research objectives are as follows:

1. To identify and categorize various types of urban manufacturing stakeholders, including companies, government agencies, non-profit organizations, citiezenship, and residents
2. To assess the motivations, goals, and challenges of these stakeholders in the context of urban manufacturing. To examine the interactions, collaborations, and conflicts between different urban manufacturing stakeholders.
3. To evaluate the impact of urban manufacturing on urban development, sustainability, and economic growth.
