Challenge: In 2020, the average cesarean section rate (31.12%) in Italy has been one of the highest in Europe for the last decades with a huge difference between Regions (e.g. 18.7% in Trento vs 50.9% in Campania). These data highlight the urgency to rethink and innovate the pregnancy pathway in Italy.

Objective: This research is part of a broad project that aims at promoting healthy pregnancy and safe childbirth.

Method: The student will have the chance to collaborate with midwives, clinicians, public health researchers, and other healthcare professionals by:

(i) mapping the existing challenges and constraints through desk analysis, interviews, and questionnaires;

(ii) co-creating the pregnancy pathway through participatory workshops that aim at adopting a patient-center logic.

The research will be carried out with other students from other faculties with the close supervision of a multidisciplinary team of academic professors and experts of the Università Bicocca and the Istituto Superiore di Sanità.
