Surplus food and food waste measurement in agriculture
The thesis aims to measure surplus food and food waste in agriculture. The research encompasses: a) a preliminary review of the literature relevant to the topic and an in-depth analysis of the agricultural sector, investigating the number, size and characteristics of the companies populating that segment in Italy; b) the development of a questionnaire and the creation of a sample of companies of that segment for the execution of a survey; c) the execution of interviews to a sub-sample of companies to investigate more in depth surplus food and food waste generation in agriculture as well as surplus food prevention and management practices. The thesis is performed in collaboration with the Food Sustainability Lab research group of Politecnico di Milano and in cooperation with Fondazione Banco Alimentare Onlus and Fondazione Sussidiarietà.
